The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is the nation’s oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarships to military children. Since 1962, the organization has awarded more than 40,000 scholarships to the children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen attending post-high school, undergraduate, and career technical education programs.
We recently spoke with Jeanna Adams, Director of Scholarship Programs, about how Scholar Snapp helps the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation reach their mission of supporting military children. Learn more about how their consistent and reliable support helps scholars reach a college degree.
At the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, our mission is to honor Marines by educating their children. Military children are often coming at post-secondary education from a special perspective. They have faced the unique challenges of growing up in a military family, like moving from place to place or handling the stress of having a parent deployed. Often, college will be the first time they start and finish their educational journey at one school.
For many of them, at least one of their parents has been at war since 2001 – almost their whole lives. That parent was not only deployed throughout their childhood, but in a combat zone. Their experiences are different than that of a typical student, but those experiences make them adaptable. They’ve been taught to persevere through challenges. For them, failure is not an option.
Providing support to and through college
What our military children need most is to know that we have their backs. So, we make it a priority to be a consistent and reliable source of financial support for them. That’s why 100% of eligible applicants are awarded a scholarship, and that scholarship is renewable for four years.
In addition to financial support, our scholars benefit from a strong network of support. Whether it’s internships with our corporate partners, networking with the many executives who attend our events, or connecting with fellow Marine families – we’re committed to fostering opportunities for our scholars that wouldn’t be possible without those connections.
Scholar Snapp helps identify additional scholarships our scholars may be eligible for so they can maximize the financial aid they receive while in college. It also allows them to re-use information from our application and populate it into other scholarship applications to reduce time and errors when applying for other scholarships.
Another great feature is that Scholar Snapp helps identify potential applicants for our scholarship from information provided through other applications. This helps students find us and provides greater support to military families in need of financial aid.
